Ford Focus: Reprogrammed new Remote Key – now won't start.

Apologies if this is repeated info for everyone – I’ve done a few
searches with various bits here and there regarding remotes and
locking but I think my problem is a bit more specific.

I bought a Ford Focus 1.8 2000 Zetec, which came with a Remote Key and
a spare (blue) key. The remote key would not work remotely but could
start the car ok.

After changing the battery on the remote and giving the unit a bit of
a clean I decided a new remote was required, so
after a few searches here and there I purchased a new remote key,
connected the key section of my faulty remote to the new remote,
reprogrammed it (4 turns of the ignition, then pressing the unlock
button on the remote at the bong signal) which worked to the extent
that I can now open the car remotely.

However one unseen side effect is that the remote key will now not
start the car. My spare blue key will, so my assumption from this is
that the signal from my remote key is not recognised by the
immobiliser.

This is concerning because I a) have to use the remote to open, then
remember to use the blue key to start the car and b) I now cannot
create new replacement keys as I need two keys to reprogram. Weird
thing is that I haven’t come across anyone with this issue – I’ve
obviously done something wrong!

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Windows opened on their own

I’ve just been outside my house and I noticed that all four windows on
my 2005 2.0 TDCi were fully open. They were fully shut when I last drove
the car yesterday and they were shut when I walked past the car this
morning.

I was working in my garage today on another car and I had the Focus key
fob in my pocket. Is it conceivable that a series of accidental button
presses on the fob has done this?

TIA,

Focus TDCi misfire problem

I have recently bought my second Focus TDCI 1.8 Zetec Climate (115 bhp)
in the UK and it’s driving me crazy – I wondered if anyone else had a
similar experience?

When accelerating hard, often in top gear, the engine appears to hold
back and ‘miss’ a bit – sometimes it’s for just a second and sometimes
it happens a lot but it definitely affects the engine’s power.  I can’t
identify any particular trend in terms of when it happens most but it is
maddening.  The car has only done 34000 miles and I have just had a full
service done but it’s not improved.

A mechanic has suggested that it may be dodgy injectors and I am really
not sure.  The car is a late 2003 model and I am not sure if you can
have the injectors re-set/calibrated on the TDCi engine?  I am more
inclined to think it’s electrical but how do I get a diagnostic check done?

Anyone eperienced a similar problem or any ideas?

Cheers

Paul

Ford Focus 1.8 zetec y reg

ive had my ford focus for six weeks now the problem is the battery
light keeps coming on, it first came on after 3 days took it back to
the garage where i bought it they charged the battery up checked the
alternator and said they could not find any fault, picked it up and
after 30 minutes the light came on again, took it back the garage but
this time they changed a wire to the alternator and a fuse, got the
car back had it for two weeks thought everything was ok and the light
came on again, ive checked online myself to try and solve the problem
and everything points to the alternator but the garage is adamant its
not faulty and have no idea what to do next.

the garage will change the car but they dont have another focus so i
was wondering

1) change the alternator anyway
2) would fords be able to find the fault if i took it to them
3) any ideas as to what it could be.
4) get rid

p.s not sure if this should happen but when i start the car if the
heater is set to 0 should the air recirc light be on.

if you need more info ill do my best to provide it.

thanks in advance for any help

Jon.

Poor Quality of UK Ford Dealerships?

Am I uniquely unlucky in the poor quality of customer service at my nearest
Ford dealerships?
The smaller (and, when last used, competent!)  Ford dealerships in my
immediate local area have closed or lost their Ford status, during the last
few years.
The 3 large dealerships in the 3 nearest large towns provide poor customer
service (on the basis of my experience over the last few years).
Two are  owned by the same company.  The last time I dealt with one of their
sites (about 3 months ago) was on a warranty matter (oil leak). They did the
job OK but left a tool in the engine compartment – wondered what the
rattling was! – and didn’t even bother to wipe up the leaked oil (which I
did myself)! Doesn’t inspire confidence (like the surgeon who leaves a swab
inside the patient and doesn’t sew up the wound properly)!
Needing a 25,000 mile service for my Focus 1.6 TDi , I resolved to use the
other large Ford dealership and completed the on-line service booking form
on the Ford UK website, asking for a service appointment.
Nothing had been heard a week later – so I concluded they must be a ‘shower’
as well, like the other big firm!
I decided finally to try out a surviving small family-owned Ford dealership
at a slightly greater distance – in the hope that, being a small firm, they
might at least have a decent customer service standard. (Some hopes, as it
turned out)!
Took car to this small firm by appointment at approx. 9am one day last week
and returned home by train (I live approx. 14 miles away and the firm knew
this). They said they’d ring me on my mobile when finished and mentioned
that they were closing at 5.30pm.
I was out and about with my wife in her car and, having heard nothing from
them by about 4.45pm assumed they must have forgotten to ring me – so and
asked her to drop me at the garage. On arrival the car was in the place
where I’d parked it 7+ hours previously, but I assumed the job must have
been done.
No such luck – the service, as they admitted, had not even commenced!
Receptionist reminded me that he was going to ring me when the service was
completed. (Pointed out that no way I could get there from home in under 1
hour – so I’d have been unable to collect that evening if he rang me when
the car was ready)!
Apologetically, they put two (very junior-looking) mechanics onto the job,
in an open-doored workshop.
I sat on a wall outside and watched them. The entire job took little more
than 1/2 hour. The bill for labour was £102 + VAT (+ another large amount
for over-priced oil, etc.) – a total bill of just under £170. Not bad for
about 1 man-hour of work?
Didn’t see them open the boot, so they didn’t check the spare wheel,
incidentally. They didn’t do a test-drive on the road (isn’t this supposed
to be done as a matter of course)?
Bill paid and keys handed over, I asked where the service record book was.
Was told it was in the car. Looked in the car and couldn’t find it, so
returned to reception office. Frantic search .. service book finally
unearthed. Asked them to stamp it. Was given it and noticed that they had
written in 23,000 miles – not 25,000 miles. They apologised and amended the
mileage figure. The whole exercise smacked of slackness, inefficiency and
lack of
professionalism. Yet another Ford dealership to be avoided!!!

Next time I’ll be using my local highly-competent (they service my wife’s
car and I’ve hired vans from them!) non-Ford garage, which tries very hard
to be helpul/efficient – despite the theoretical benefits of using a Ford
dealer for servicing.

Has anyone else suffered in this way? What’s a fair price for a 25000
service on a Focus diesel?

Thanks.

Paul

seat arm rest problem

focus 1.8 Ghia 2004

would anyone have any idea how mush a dealership would charge to repair
an armrest.

It is connected to the side of the driver’s seat.

I leant on it today and it just slipped down, I pulled it up and now
it’s stuck in the vertical position.

thanks

Putting in a bigger engine

I want a Focus that will go from 0-60 in less than seven seconds.  I
was wondering, how big of an engine would I need to get that and could
I get Ford to do it for me under these ‘build your own’ things?  Would
this be expensive?
